The Big Ten has traditionally had the picture of being a smashmouth convention, where lines struggle for yards on the ground in cold weather. Truly, the group with the nation’s stiffest run defense last year came from the Big Ten. So did the second-best pass protection. All in all, the conference was next to the SEC in points allowed per game (25.8) and led Power Five conventions in turnovers forced.
