Steven Gerrard has verified Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo will miss Saturday’s game with Aberdeen and also”potentially a number more”, then that he suffered a nasty cut into the head in their 1-0 win in Livingston.
Aribo, who proceeded out of Charlton over the summer to Ibrox, received 20 stitches in a head wound after a struggle involving Livingston’s Rickie Lamie within their Scottish League Cup match on Wednesday night.
The 23-year-old was forced off with Glen Kamara’s fifth-minute goal proving to win the tie and establish a semi-final against Hearts at the Tony Macaroni Arena, after 22 minutes of the game.
“I talked to Joe [Aribo] that morning, he is pretty shocked and sore but he’s OK,” Gerrard said.
“After obtaining 20 stitches in his head, he is OK – that the doctors did a wonderful job on him, as he was cut all of the way into the bone. The health care provider will determine in the times when he will return.
“He will definitely miss the game at the weekend and potentially the next few after this. I’ll be surprised if we view Aribo play before the break.
“It is his very first time out of London and he has settled very well. This will be a drawback but knowing himhe will bounce backagain. He didn’t even wish to come yesterday, which shows his mentality off.
“I really don’t think the player has gone into intentionally hurt him that in my book is serious dangerous play and in any other league, it is a card.
“Livingston are extremely direct and physical. They pushed us in the second half however I am proud of the lads they stood together and stood up to it”
In terms of the trip of Aberdeen to Ibrox at the weekend, Gerrard admits he’s a cautious of a negative that knocked them from both the Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup last season, in addition to procuring a 1-0 league win at Ibrox in December.
“Aberdeen hurt us a lot last year. They are totally going to be tough matches and we will need to get prepared for that,” additional Gerrard.
“The players are aware of what they are going to confront, the admiration is that but if we find our level, I am convinced we will find a result.”
