Tokyo Olympic marathon moved over climate concerns

The International Olympic Committee has announced plans to move the Tokyo 2020 marathon and race walking events over 800 kilometres south of the funding of Japan.
Organisers seem eager to avoid a repeat of what happened at Doha at the recent World Athletics Championships, where because of sweltering heat and humidity nearly half the field failed to finish the womens marathon.
The sponsor of the 1972 Winter Olympics, sapporo, could be five to six degrees warmer on average than Tokyo.
IOC president Thomas Bach said:Trainers health and well-being are constantly in the heart of our worries.
The new far-reaching proposals to move the marathon and race walking events show just how seriously we take such issues.
The Olympic Games are the platform where athletes may giveonce-in-a-lifetime performances, and such steps ensure they have the conditions to provide their very best.
