Tokyo Olympic marathon moved over climate concerns

The International Olympic Committee has announced plans to proceed to the Tokyo 2020 marathon and race walking events over 800 kilometres south of Japans capital.
Organisers seem keen to prevent a repeat of what happened in Doha at the World Athletics Championships, where half the field failed to complete the womens marathon due to sweltering heat and humidity.
Sapporo, the sponsor of the 1972 Winter Olympics, can be five to six degrees warmer on average than Tokyo.
IOC president Thomas Bach said:Trainers health and well-being are constantly in the core of our concerns.
The new far-reaching proposals to go through the marathon and race walking events reveal just how seriously we consider such concerns.
The Olympic Games are the platform where athletes can contributeonce-in-a-lifetime performances, and these steps ensure they have the requirements to present their best.
