The Hundred Draft: Kane Williamson will be in demand, says Simon Katich

The captaincy characteristics of kane Williamson mean he will probably be in high demand throughout The Hundred Draft, says Manchester Originals head trainer Simon Katich.
New Zealand skipper Williamson includes a strike-rate of 122 from Twenty20 international cricket – a format thats seen because his weakest – considerably below that of West Indies Chris Gayle (143) and Australias David Warner (140).
Even though Gayle and Warner will take a reserve price of #125k at Sundays draft, along with Australia skipper Steve Smith (strike-rate 122), Williamson has positioned himself in the 100k bracket which means he will be available for two, instead of 1 round of selections.
Katich told Sky Sports News thatwithout doubt there is space for a batsman of all Williamsons temperament from the 100-ball competition, which gets underway in July 2020.
These men add over their batting – Kane Williamson and Steve Smith in particular, said the former Australian batsman.
Theyre excellent leaders and clearly have an impact on the rest of the group and tactically they are extremely good also.
Williamson nearly led New Zealand for their first World Cup therefore, from that perspective, hell be in demand Id have thought.
Gayle is a challenging one since his form in the past couple of years has been outstanding, particularly in the IPL and some of the additional franchise tournaments he has played .
But everyone has to weigh it up and find out what suits the balance of their team the very best and whether he has a role to play.
Hes up there with AB de Villiers as possibly the biggest T20 batsman, therefore it will be intriguing to check whether groups need him or not.
Gayle wasnt picked while the ECB hosted a draft in Lords earlier this week, at which members of the media road-tested the notebooks and technologies to be used for the actual thing.
Sky Sports, representing Welsh Fire, created Williamson their next choice to match a order already boasting volatile hitters Jonny Bairstow, Tom Banton and Colin Ingram.
Katich acknowledged that finding the right balance is going to be one of the challenges come Sundays draft.
If you are paying high dollar you anticipate those guys to become game-changers because they are very few and far between but they play roles where they are going to have a big opportunity to influence the sport, he explained.
At a draft like that there will be some interesting approaches because using three abroad picks theres the chance to contract them at any given phase of this draft, so it doesnt necessarily have to be in the very top.
It will be interesting to understand the way the game along with the structure evolves as the innings with 20 chunks less than T20 may have another effect on the batsmans mindset and the way they need to start structuring their innings.
Bowlers will be under stress also sooner in their charms because there are fewer balls to get on with it
The Hundred Draft – Live will be shown on Sky Sports Cricket, Main Event & Sky One from 7pm.
It is going to also be available via Sky Sports Facebook and YouTube channels, as well as live on the Sky Sports app and streamed skysports.com.
